The Lunar Chronicles - Cinder

The first book of the Lunar chronicles Cinder by Marissa Meyer is a thrilling read. A part-cyborg protagonist, a loose Cinderella retelling in a future/alternate universe, a setting in New Beijing, and a potential war with a kingdom of Lunar people (a race who live on the moon).
Cinder is set in the chaotic city of New Beijing, which was made in the aftermath of World War 4. Cinder is trying to juggle working as a mechanic along with avoiding her stepmother, who hates her because she is a cyborg. Her life is fairly simple until one day, the Prince of the Eastern Commonwealth, Kai, shows up asking if she can fix his broken android. Soon after that, her sister falls ill with the plague, Cinder gets carted off for medical testing and things pretty much go in a downward spiral from there.

This book grips you from the first page, yanking you into Cinder's world and letting you see what it's like to be different from everyone else. You feel inside the story, feeling Cinder's excitement, worries, pain, and fears. I loved the connections to the original story, Cinderella, in this book, and loved how it was different. I like how practically every chapter had another character's perspective so the reader can see what each character is seeing and thinking. I would have liked it if Meyer included more history and culture about New Beijing and Luna (the moon) though.

I would recommend this book/series to anyone who is interested in something futuristic and adventurous. I think this book can be enjoyed by all ages as it is interesting and gripping.
