Sister by Rosamund Lupton

Sister by Rosamund Lupton is a murder mystery based primarily in New York. This story is written from the point of view of Beatrice, an engaged woman with a seemingly ordinary life in Los Angeles. Throughout the book you are taken on a journey as Beatrice tries to uncover the true meaning behind her sisters death. (This is not a spoiler by the way it happens at the start of the book)

Personally I think that this is a fantastic novel. It takes you through different stages, some parts being portrayed by letters, others written like the moment is happening, and others describing Beatrice relaying this information to the police afterwards and showing how she reacts when having to explain in detail her journey.
The novel is crafted in such a way that keeps you on your feet throughout the whole ride, so, I suggest if you get easily addicted to books, or if you don't have a tremendous amount of time on your hands do not pick up this book until you do. This is not a quick read, although the book itself in page length is not too long, to really grasp the concept and the ideas being portrayed you definitely need time for everything to sink in. You can not skim read this book.

I think that the message the author is trying to bring across ( this may be wrong ) is that the way society views things is not always correct. And that while we as bystanders may watch the police neatly wrap up a case others may still not feel satisfied. And that when the time comes for you to need someone desperately, especially emotionally, the one person you thought would be there might not actually be the right one. The author cleverly covers many different aspects of grief and every day life in a way I personally have not seen before. If you enjoy a book that makes you have to stop and think a bit to find answers this is a great one for you.

Honestly to finish off I was a quite surprised at this book. It did not disappoint, if anything it exceeded my expectations. This book never failed to surprise me, no matter which bit I was reading, and if you enjoy some psychology, mystery, murder, a tiny tiny amount of conflict then this is the book for you (:
